Library collections

 

The collection consists of some 19,000 books (50% of which are in foreign languages) and more than 200 periodicals (40% are in foreign languages) of which 60 are received currently. The collection covers the issues relating to agriculture and rural development. Books, reports, standards, process and norm documents, scientific research thesis and themes are main materials.

 

Monographs

 

The monographs are arranged in closed shelves in the Library, but are available upon request at the librarian’s desk.

 

Reference books

The reference books can only be used within the Library. It consists mainly of dictionaries and is housed in the reading room.

 

Journals

 

The current journal titles are placed in alphabetical order, with the most recent issue on display and older issues on the closed shelves.

 

Catalogue

 

The Library online catalog is the main base that gives access to all books and journals in the MARD collection.

 

Databases

 

Electronic databases

 

§                A science and technology management database of the sector of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for the management of science & technology potential of the sector, including information on human resources, themes, projects, etc., of research institutes, centers and universities of the sector and related sectors.

 

§                A bibliographic database of books available in the Library, and other bibliographic databases with abstract of local scientific and technological research papers.

 

§                A bibliographic database with abstracts of the world’s scientific and technological research papers.

 

CD-ROM databases

 

§                     TEEAL (The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library) contains a comprehensive collection of current journals, and available only to developing countries, this CD-ROM library is updated annually and contains over 140 journals selected by 600 international scientists as the most essential to research and education in: Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Crop Improvement, Environment and Natural Resources, Food Processing and Nutrition, Forestry, Livestock Production, Plant Protection, Range Management, Rural Development, Soil and Water Management, Sustainable Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine.

 

To date, TEEAL includes the complete text and images from the 1993-2002 editions of the journals included in it-over two million pages compressed onto 403 compact discs. Annual updates are released one year following the original year of publication.

 

§                     CAB ABSTRACTS represent the world’s largest, most comprehensive collection of literature in agriculture and related life sciences. Over 7,000 journals and technical report series from more than 140 countries are screened annually. Now it includes over 4 million records and 180,000 new records are added each year.  Subjects covered include: Agricultural and Environmental Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Production, Animal Breeding and Biotechnology, Crop Protection, Dairy Science and Technology, Entomology, Food Science, Forestry, Forest Products and Agroforestry, Horticulture.

 

§                     AGRIS -A bibliographic database for all material related to agriculture in the widest sense (fisheries, forestry, and nutrition). References cover not only monographic material (books, and articles in periodicals) but also non-conventional literature (meetings and project reports, theses, surveys and studies, etc.) particularly relevant to agricultural development. 130,000 new records from 200 AGRIS centers around the World added each year.
