Abstract: Study on nutritional characteristics of Spotted Catfish (Arius maculatus) was conducted from November 2017 to November 2018. Samples were collected by trawling nets along Hau estuary from Cai Cui, to Tran De and Dinh An estuaries in every two months. The diet spectrum was determined using an Index of Relative Importance - IRI in relation to locations, sampling periods and fishes size class. Immature and mature fish were collected for feed contents analysis, 25 samples for each stage. The variation feed contents were recorded from the stomach of A. maculatus during the study periods. Arius maculatus are omnivorous fish, which are predominantly animal- based, their main feed contents include crustacean, copepod, bivalvia, snail, polychaete and small fish. In particular, the predominant feed component of fish is large crustaceans such as shrimp, crab, accounting for 64.35% with IRI=22.91% and copepods accounting for 18.81% with IRI=28.58%. Shellfish, snails, polychaete and small fishes are low-proportioned in gut contents. In addition, the food ingredients of juvenile fishes (Lm < 12 cm) are more diverse than adult fishes (Lm >12 cm).
